Youth development programme

The Youth Development Programme aims to develop, empower, equip and motivate the youth to take charge of their destiny. Fostering social skills, life skills, leadership qualities and educational nourishment - is one of the key fundamental tools that will cultivate the youth into individuals whom will make a meaningful contribution to the growth and development of the church, community and the country as a whole. The program fulfils its purpose by:

-  Mentorship Programs
-  Career Exhibitions
-  Group Discussions
-  Makhonza Bursary Fund

The Programme targets learners from Grade 10—12 (not restricting other grades and university students) as these are the critically years where very decision becomes a foundation for the future.

Mentorship Programs

The founders of the Programme observed that mentorship can be seen as a form of semi-structured guidance where one person shares their life, knowledge, skills and experience to assist others to progress in their own lives. Mentorship is more than just giving advice but rather passing through experience. It involves motivating and empowering the other person to identify their own issues, goals and helping them discover a way to resolve or achieve them.

With this notion, the Programme offers more than pleasurable activities for the students it also focuses on the key everlasting relationships that will be beneficial to the holistic growth of the learner. The Learners are divided into workable group and allocated to a mentor who will assist in subject choice and academics.

Makhonza Bursary Fund

The Youth Development Programme awarded five deserving students financial assistance to further their studies in tertiary. The students followed a very prudent selection process and came out the best.  As the Programme grows, full bursaries will be given. The recipients attend various institutions such University of Johannesburg, University of the Free State and PC Training & Business College.  The ceremony was conducted during the church service with their friends and family present. Mrs Ann Makhathini presented the awards to recipients.

Achievements

Career Exhibitions

The Youth Development Programme hosts the Career Expo annually with the aim of further enlightening students on careers, companies and institutions that offer higher education and training after they have completed their Matric.  This exposes the learners to a world of business and also to higher education.

The main activities include:

  • Main addresses by National and community leaders such as the minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga.
  • Motivational talks by business leaders such as Linda Ntuli, Key Note Speaker from the Gauteng Department of Education east region as well as other speaker from various corporate organisations.
  • Company and tertiary stalls showcasing the opportunities in the academic and working world one-on-one career guidance with professionals and much more.

2013 marked the most prevalent Expo ever hosted by the Programme, with a total number of 1500 students attending as well as over 30 companies and institutions, the growth has been noteworthy.  Time Quantum, SAA, Delliote, Erkhurleni Metro Police Service, Department of Health and Institutions such as Wits, PC training and University of Johannesburg were some of the exhibitors. With 2013 in the bag, The Programme is already planning and inviting institutions and organisations for the Bigger and Better 2014 Career Expo.

Golf Day

The Golf Day is purposed to raise money for the Makhonza Bursary Fund which is the ultimate leg of the Youth Development Programme after changing the mindset and outlook of the young people. Through the Golf Day we aim to also connect established businesses as well as SMME’s and business personnel to come together for a worthy cause. The Golf Day can be seen as a new platform to expand business and to further grow networks in potentially unchartered markets.

Participants can take part either by:

-     Playing a four-ball game;
-    For businesses (or individuals), sponsoring a hold
-    Donating or sponsoring prizes to the golfers in the day

MEET THE DRIVERS BEHIND THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

“Education knows no colour, no creed and no injustice. It is the Key to creating wealth and the Youth Development Programme embraces and encourage education at all levels of life. Being part of this program is an honour: I am a young person and am where I am today because of Jesus Christ and the choice I made to study further.”

Zinhle Mncube

“One of the Key principles to success is hard word. Hard work fights off poverty, shame and disgrace.  The Youth Development Programme aims to assist those young people who are dedicated and want to make their dreams a reality.  Working Hard is a choice but Jesus enables me to work smart. I aspire to be like the late Reverend Makhathini who was a visionary and left behind a legacy.  Being part of the generation that is fulfilling his prophecies is mind blowing.”
Mduduzi Dladla

The Youth Development Programme is an appropriate platform to give young people an opportunity to be better than their surrounding environments.
With the assistance of partners, we have the opportunity of not only meeting our day-to-day objectives but as well as to meet our long-term media centre objectives sooner than envisioned.
