Our history

Rev Makhonza and Anne Makhathini

Reverend Nicholas Makhonza Makhathini was born in the dusty streets of Daveyton, East Rand.  He was the fourth child amongst seven children. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1969. He was called into ministry in 1973 and through faith, founded Christ Ambassadors Gospel Church from humble beginnings in 1980. He was a man that was passionate about preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ that reconciles people with God and started sister churches at Kwa-Ndebele, Ga-Selala, Bethal and Daveyton.

He was called to preach the prosperity of God to people and walked as a display of God.  He was a visionary and his vision was to have a word based evangelical, charismatic church that will be a gospel centre; to reach many lives with the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, bringing God's success to people's lives for being a blessing to others, the Saints and the World. He was a man of faith and profusely confessed one of three verses… “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly and above all that we can ask or think according to the power that works in us” Ephesians 3:20 and Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah Lord God, Behold, You have made the heaven and earth by Your great power and outstretched arm, nothing is too hard for you.”

Throughout his entire ministry He injected faith to his family, congregation and all who came in contact with. There has been two building that he built during his time in the ministry and all of them were built by faith. The First C.A.G.C building nicknamed “Pink Church” seated 500 people, after some time the building had to extended in three parts namely, overflow, maxi-flow and eventually window flow. The building was called Pink Church because Reverend Makhathini wanted everyone to know that when you come into the building the Love of Christ would saturate the atmosphere.

The congregation moved to a 5000 seater nicknamed “Faithview”; the building was built by faith no loan was taken to finish of the building God through his saints availed the money for labourer, material and all that was needed to his off the building. Whenever the building seemed like it was going nowhere, Reverend Makhathini would stand in the midst of the saints and proclaimed the greatness of God. “He can do exceedingly, abundantly and above all that we can ask,” this was a man of Faith.

Reverend Makhathini together with his wife Mrs Makhathini was blessed with three daughters and with Pastor Tabane at his right he continued to preach the Gospel until his last day.
